Hallo Magenta Mini

Pattern design
This project is my response to a brief launched during a university workshop. The goal was to customize the new Smart Speaker Mini by Deutsche Telekom.
To do that I started analyzing two fashion trends (grunge and afropunk), trying to translate them into patterns. I also tried to imagine a possible environment, a room, where the device could be located. In the end, I also found some chromatic variations that could match best the palette chosen for the style.
The afropunk theme is characterised by a vastity of patterns and colours. So were my first attempts, colourful, different from each other, with some ethnic touches. In modernity I found the final solution: I chose sunflowers and microphones as the elements to keep on top, with various patterns in the background. I also played with a difference of scales.
The key word for the grunge theme was tartan patterns, which I tried to include into my first texture proposals. However, the patterns needed a more contemporary vibe, so I tried to introduce some more modern elements, such as roses and guitars. I also played with different scales of the same texture, to valorise the pattern’s details.
